Well, the cane originated from the military as a sign of rank. Now during this time many African American males, many who were members of Greek Letter organizations, were being pulled out of college to fight in the war and upon going back to college many of them brought back the ideal of using canes into their Greek letter organization, mainly the SIGMA's and the KAPPA's. For years Sigma's have stepped with canes all over the world.   So therefore, its in our soul, our blood, and our history!
