Located in the coastal city of Savannah, Georgia, Savannah State University (SSU) is a senior co-educational unit of the University System of Georgia. Founded in 1890, the University is located on a beautiful 173-acre tract adjacent to a salt-marsh estuary and is approximately five miles from the largest National Historic Landmark District in the U.S The residential campus is approximately 10 minutes from the downtown historic district and 20 minutes from the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean.

Savannah State University is one of the only two universities under the University System of Georgia offering the graduate program in Urban Studies (MUS). MUS is affiliated with the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning. The Master of Science in Marine Sciences (MSMS) program is the only one of its kind in Southeast Georgia with direct access to estuarine, coastal and open-ocean research environments. The Master of Business Administration program is one of two AACSB International accredited programs in Savannah. SSU is the only institution located in Savannah to offer an AACSB accredited program. Other graduate programs include: Master of Social Work (MSW) accredited by CSWE and Master of Public Administration (MPA) accredited by (NASPAA). Savannah State University is also a member of the Southern Association of Collegiate Schools.
