Satisfactory Academic Progress
Policy
(SAP
Policy)
To
be eligible to receive Student Financial Aid (SFA) funds,
students must be maintaining satisfactory progress.
Savannah State University is required by the U.S.
Department of Education to establish minimum standards of
satisfactory a academic progress. Satisfactory
Academic Progress (SAP) means the student is progressing
in a positive manner toward fulfilling degree
requirements. The Satisfactory academic Progress
policy includes two major components: quality and quantity
(time frame).
CALCULATING THE CUMULATIVE AVERAGE
Determinations of scholastic standing are generally based upon a cumulative grade point average, which appears on each student’s permanent record. The cumulative grade point average is calculated by dividing the total number of grade points earned in academic courses at Savannah State University by the total number of academic credit hours attempted at Savannah State University. Credits earned at other institutions, credits by examination, credits that carry S/U grades, institutional credits, and credits specifically excluded by University policy are not used in computing the cumulative grade point average. The University counts the last course grade, hours, and quality points if a course is repeated. All grades remains on the transcript. Adjusted grade point averages are computed each semester.
