Placement Testing General Policies
All students wishing to enroll at the University must submit a completed application for admissions to the Admissions Office. Students may be required by the Admissions Office to complete placement testing in the areas of writing, reading, and mathematics. All entering freshmen must take a Writing Assessment, an essay test to assess writing skills and structure.
Placement testing is offered several times throughout each semester and during registration. Students must make an appointment with Testing Office to take the placement test.
Students providing the Admissions Office with a transcript or grade report from an accredited college or university within the University System Schools of Georgia which shows successful completion of an English and/or mathematics course may be exempt from taking all or part of the placement test.
Decisions regarding exemptions will be made by the Admissions Office, the appropriate Dean, and/or the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Students who have a documented learning, emotional or physical disability that would prevent them from finishing the test with a time limit, may be eligible to take test in another setting or with different time limits.
Students who have a disability and take tests under regular timed testing conditions may not petition to re-test. Students with documented disabilities needing special accommodations throughout their education at Savannah State University should make contact with the Center for Student Development in the King-Frazier Complex Student Center, Room 233. To schedule an intake interview please stop by their office or call them at: (912) 356-2202.
