Welcome to the Freshman Year Experience Program!

It is a pleasure to have you as a part of our SSU "Tiger Family." Your decision to attend college is one of the most important decisions that you will make in your life. As you prepare to accomplish your academic goals, know that we are here to assist you in becoming a successful college student. The first year of college is the foundation for which the entire academic experience is built. Therefore, we have worked extensively to build a solid foundation that will assist you in creating positive and meaningful experiences that will help shape your future. 

The Freshman Year Experience Program (FYE) is a multifaceted program designed to assist you in making the adjustment to college by offering a comprehensive array of activities, events and guidance that will help you meet your personal, academic and professional goals. You will enjoy the opportunity to meet and interact with faculty, staff , administrators and other students through the "Mentorship Program," peer associated activities, and most, importantly, the Freshman Year Experience Seminar.

So, as you begin your college journey at SSU, remember that in order for you to make a great transition, you must have a clear understanding of your role in the learning process and maintain a level of personal initiative to be successful in college.  Finally, become involved in your new community--actively meet new people and participate in activities, clubs or organizations of your interest.  Adjusting to college can be challenging, but with the right tools and guidance you will gain rewarding experiences and lasting memories.  We look forward to meeting you and watching you grow
