DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL WORK
A Center of Excellence |
The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree in social work is a carefully articulated program providing both the academic and experience back ground for students seeking a career in the varied and expanding field of social work. The BSW program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. An application-oriented major, it is based on a synthesis of knowledge from several social sciences, together with methodologies of intervention at the individual, grouped, and community levels. Social work graduates are educated to respond in an informed way to identifiable social work needs in a variety of settings. The program's orientation and its synthesis of knowledge from the liberal arts focus on specific social work methods and practical skills and values. The social work major is structures around four interrelated components: theoretical foundations/intervention strategies; client population/cultural diversity; research/evaluation; and skills development/fieldwork. Students admitted to the major are expected to maintain academic excellence and demonstrate professional behavior. |
