The Department of Mass Communications prepares students for careers in all areas of professional print and broadcast media, including public relations and advertising.
Print:
Students in the print journalism concentration typically work for newspapers or magazines, news services or in careers that require expertise in information gathering and analysis, writing and editing. A graduate of this concentration might work as a reporter, editor, copy editor, writer, photographer, online editor, or in lay-out and design.
Radio and Television:
The radio and television concentration prepares students for careers in gathering, writing, analyzing and delivering news and other programming in broadcast format. Students in this concentration could work in film, as on-air radio an television personalities, producers, writers, cable television, management, sales, corporate communications, production and post production, online and in all other areas of broadcast media and new media technologies.
Public Relations and Advertising:
Students concentrating in public relations and advertising, upon graduating, may work in the following areas: corporate public relations, public opinion research, special events planning, fundraising, package designing, web designing, community relations, sales, illustration, reporting, graphic design, politics (lobbying), public affairs, alumni relations, advertising, account management, consulting, media research and marketing. |
