The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) offers porgrams that provide broad-basd learning in a variety of subjects to develop your critical thinking abilites, communication skills, work experience and community involvement. Our highly qualified professor's teach in small classroom setting and take the time to get to know you as an individual. An undergraduate or graduate degree through any one of our excellent academic programs will prepare you for success in your chosen field of study. LIBERAL ARTS
The programs of fine arts and languages & humanities, comprise the Department of Liberal Arts. These programs encompass the varied disciplines of English language and literature, foreign languages, religious and philosophical studies, humanities, music, art, speech, and theater.You are offered a wealth of activities and experiences at SSU that let you expand your horizons in the arts, regardless of your major. Examples include "Estuary," a publicaiton that features student art, poetry, and other writings. "The Players by the Sea" is an organized theater group that has been recognized locally for its outstanding offerings. The Marching Tiger Band is a campus tradition that includes all of the pageantry and precision expected of those who don the blue and orange uniform. It is one of only a number of opportunities for studentss to display their musical talents.
MASS COMMUNICATIONS
Offers courses leading to the baccalaureate degree (B.A.) with a concentration in one of three areas: Print and Online Journalism; Public Relations and Advertising; Radio, Television, and Film . Minor programs are available in English and several other disciplines within the University. The department also offers courses in desktop publishing, photojournalism, radio and television production, public relations, non-linear editing, web design, and advertising copywriting.You will have many opportunities before graduation to develop your prefessional skills. We offer a fully-functioning television production studio and control room; WHCJ-FM, the university's radio station; and "Tiger's Roar", SSU's award-winning student newspaper. Public relations and advertising experience both in and out of the classroom through internships and volunteer opportunities and classroom projects also abound.
POLITICAL SCIENCE, PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION, AND URBAN STUDIES
Whether studying pre-law, public administration or international and comparative politics, our programs prepare you for exciting careers in government, law, business, international organizations and to teach in a secondary classroom by preparing students to take the certification exam. Students who have earned their bachelor's degree can continue their education here at SSU. Our master's degree in public administration prepares students to work effectively as managers and leaders in public service organizations.
SOCIAL & BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE
The Department of Behavioral & Social Sciences offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science programs designed to develop an appreciation of history, a commitment to civic responsibilities, respect of cultural diversity and an understanding of both human behavioral and interpersonal relationshops. Courses examine the issues, problems, resources and opportunities of local and global communities.
SOCIAL WORK
Our bachelor's degree program in social work prepares you for individual, group, and community level service. The social work major is structured around four interrelated components: theoretical foundations/intervention strategies, client population/cultural diversity, research/evaultion, and skills development/fieldwork.Savannah State's social work majors put what they've learned into practice. As an undergraduate student, you will complete 600 clock hours of field practice. The fieldwork gives you opportunities to integrate and apply your classroom instruction in diverse duman service settings under the instruction of approved, agency-based social workers. After earning you bachelor's degree, you can continue your education at SSU and earn a master's degree in social work. |
