Band Audition Requirements
The band audition is a tool designed to offer some indication of a musician's instrumental performance proficiency. The design of the audition is in three different levels of proficiency that will accommodate the level of incoming freshmen to upper-classmen at the college level.
Basic Audition
* Any two scales of your choice. Slur up two octaves and tongue down
* Any prepared piece. Observe all tempo and interpretational symbols; play complete exercises.
* Sight-reading
Medium Audition
* Bb, Eb, G Major scales. Slur up two octaves and tongue down.
* Any prepared piece. Observe all tempo and interpretational symbols; play complete exercises.
* Sight-reading
Advanced Audition
* Bb, Eb, Ab, G, D Major scales. Slur up two octaves and tongue down.
* Any prepared piece. Observe all tempo and interpretational symbols; play complete exercises.
* Sight-reading
Percussion
* Knowledge of the 40 rudiments preferred.
* Prepared Piece on any instrument.
* Sight-reading on snare drum and/or marimba.
Adjudication scores will be based on tone, technique, style, and dynamics on scales and prepared pieces. Sight-Reading scores will be based on rhythm, counting, accuracy of notes, articulation, and style.
Video Audition
Record the basic, medium, or advanced audition with prepared music/solo of your choice and send it to the address below. Have your band director or parent sign this sheet next to the audition you choose and send it back with your audition tape or video. Be sure to name announce the scales and solo music before you begin to play on the video.
