Klassy Kitties Danceline

The Klassy Kitties Danceline is a group of 8-12 young ladies who excel in the art of dance. They perform as a part of the Marching "Tigers" Band, occasionally as a part of the Tiger Pep Band, and also as a solo group. Auditions are held in the spring semester for SSU students and in the summer for transfer and high school students. Many young ladies audition and membership is highly selective. Once admitted into the squad, strict self-discipline is expected and dance courses are required. Auditions for the position of Featured Twirler are provided by request only and will be admitted into the program by audition and need.

Audition Information

The Klassy Kitties auditions are by invitation ONLY and consist of four stages. You must be an SSU student, have been accepted into the university, or awaiting acceptance into the university.

Stage One

Candidates must provide a dance resume outlining past dance experience and training, a recent full body photograph tastefully dressed in dance attire (leotards and tights/sports bra or cropped dance shirt/jazz pants or dance shorts), and a completed registration form with accurate measurements. An optional letter of recommendation from your dance instructor or band director will be accepted as well. This criteria will be evaluated by the audition committee and invitations will be granted to those who meet the qualifications for advancement to the next stage. Invitations to audition will be sent by e-mail and by mail.

Stage One requirements for the summer audition should be sent to this address and must be postmarked before July 2.

Stage Two

Those ladies who were granted invitations will now proceed through the audition process, which is a one day regimen, usually lasting 8-9 hours.

This stage involves the interview process, which consists of individual academic standing and standard/major "why" questions. This is the chance to show your personality and how well you express yourself as well as show off other personal traits. Personal attitude and views on group work and other related subject matters are incorporated as well.

Stage Three

Ladies will be taught a piece of choreography and will be required to execute it in groups.

Stage Four

Ladies will perform a 1-2 minute solo routine to music of your choice (no vulgar or obscene music) that exemplifies dance technique and flexibility. This should include leaps, jumps, and turns. A cassette/CD player will be provided. Cassettes should be cued.

Audition results will be based on the following considerations:

Appearance - Appearance becoming of a dancer (personal grooming, attire and physical definition). Ladies appearance at the audition should be as if it were a performance. This includes attire, hair, and makeup.

Smile - Your consistent expressions of enjoyment throughout the audition presentation.

Composition - How technical, artistic, graceful, and poised you are as you perform the prepared audition choreography.

Transition - How gracefully you flow from one dance movement and/or technique to another.

Retention - Your ability to retain and recall the choreography.

Originality - Your creative and artistic interpretation of the choreography you present at the audition

Note: All information submitted to the band office (including photos) are non-returnable and audition results are FINAL.
