The Jamerson Legacy
Three generations of Jamerson dentists contributed to the fortitude of West Broad Street in Savannah, Georgia. Beginning with Dr. J.W. Jamerson, whom opened his dentistry practice in the Wage Earnerís and Savings Building (currently the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum) soon after its construction in 1915, the Jamersons occupied a second floor office until 1982 when Dr. Jamerson, II and Dr. Jamerson, III constructed their own office at the corner of Henry and Habersham Streets. Dr. Jamerson, Sr. practiced until 1963. Dr. J. W. Jamerson, II was a graduate of Meharry Medical School and practiced from 1941 until 1986. Dr. J.W. ìBillyî Jamerson, III was reluctant to follow in the family tradition, but graduated from Howard University in 1980 and is continuing the legacy as well as writing a book on Black Dentistry. |
