Lady Tigers fall to Providence in home opener

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Savannah State University volleyball team were defeated by Providence College in three games in there first home match of the season at Tiger Arena on Thursday night. The Friars won 30-18, 30-25 and 30-13.

SSU’s (0-4) Donna Jenkins led the Lady Tigers, for the fourth consecutive game, with a team-high 10 kills on 25 total attacks and a .200 attack percentage.

In game one, PC (2-0) got off to a quick start defeating SSU 30-18. Game two saw a different Lady Tiger team as SSU had a commanding 17-10 lead midway through the game. The Lady Friars would battle back taking the game 30-25. PC would go on to win the match after winning game three by a 17-point margin.

SSU’s defensive specialist Danielle Richardson had a game-high eight digs and setter April Hayes finished with 15 sets and a team-leading three service aces.

PC’s Elizabeth Flynn had a game-high 11 kills on 19 attacks and .526 hitting percentage.

SSU will return to action at home on ----- against South Carolina State University at 6:00 p.m.
