Longwood Nips Lady Tigers

FARMVILLE, Va- Ivy Smith poured in a game-high 22 points but it was not enough as Savannah State dropped a 69-66 decision to Longwood in Willett Hall.
Smith was 7-for-15 from the field, made 4-of-8 three point attempts and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
Longwood placed four players in double figures with Krystal Garrison leading the way with 18 points.
Smith's 3-pointer gave SSU a 66-64 lead with 26 seconds remaining but Garrison answered with a 3-pointer to give the Lancers a 67-66 advantage with 11 seconds on the clock. Garrison added two free throws with one second left for the final points of the contest.
Both teams had runs in the first half with Longwood stringing together a 9-0 run and SSU getting a 9-2 spurt. Savannah State trailed by two with just under four minutes left in the half but went into the locker room with a slim 28-26 advantage.
In the second period, SSU trailed by seven before going on a 9-0 run to go ahead 61-59 with 1:19 remaining.
Patrice Robinson posted a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds for Savannah State (12-15).
Longwood improved to 14-13 in a game that had seven ties and 15 lead changes.
