Savannah State Falls To Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, Ga- Janie Mitchell scored 14 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Georgia Tech to a 82-28 win over Savannah State in Alexander Memorial Coliseum.
The 1,022 fans in attendance saw the Yellow Jackets and Tigers play for the first time since the 1974-75 season. SSU came into the game leading 2-0 in the series.
Mitchell was one of four Tech players in double figures. Iasia Hemingway scored 13 points while Chioma Nnamaka and Brigitte Ardossi had 10 points each.
Tech scored the first six points of the game but SSU answered with a layup by Courtney Long and two free throws from Patrice Robinson to slice SSU's deficit to 6-4.
The Yellow Jackets (19-6) strung together a 22-4 surge to go ahead 28-8 with 7:33 on the clock.
SSU trailed by 24 late in the half and was down 39-16 at the break.
Tech began the second period by scoring 13 straight points during a 16-2 run to go ahead 55-18 with 12:46 left.
Leading by 35 with 8:48 remaining, Tech closed the game with a 23-4 run and held SSU without a field goal for the last four and a half minutes.
Tech won the rebounding battle 49 to 24.
Antoinette Williams had 10 points for Savannah State (12-13).
