Free Throws Push Coastal Past SSU

CONWAY, S.C.- Coastal Carolina made six free throws down the stretch in a 59-50 win over Savannah State at Kimbel Arena.
After SSU's LaShara Smith made a layup to pull the Lady Tigers to within three with 27 seconds remaining, Coastal received four free throws from Sydnei Moss and two from Vicky Blanchard to get the nine point win.
Lacey Lyons led CCU (13-6) with 16 points while Blanchard and Amanda Stull scored 12 points apiece and had 11 rebounds each.
Leading by five with 4:36 left in the opening half, Coastal scored 10 straight points to go ahead 30-15 with 1:07 remaining.
CCU led 30-21 at the break.
Savannah State trailed by nine in the second half but rallied to tie the game at 38 with 9:11 left.
The Lady Tigers eventually took a 46-41 lead but Coastal ended the game with a a 18-4 run.
Coastal only shot 23.8 percent from the floor in the second half.
LaShara Smith had a game-high 17 points for SSU (11-12). Antoinette Williams added 11 and Ivy Smith scored 10.
