Robinson Lifts SSU Past Morris

SAVANNAH, Ga- Patrice Robinson scored 14 of her game-high 22 points in the first half to lead Savannah State past Morris 76-51 in Tiger Arena.

Robinson hit 10-of-13 shots from the floor, pulled down eight rebounds and blocked four shots in her 25 minutes of action.

Freshman Courtney Long came off the bench to score 12 points for SSU as she went 6-for-6 from the field and Ivy Smith added 11 points, seven assists and five steals.

Savannah State finished the contest shooting 56.4 percent from the floor and hit 13-of-16 free throw attempts.

Morris (7-15) out-rebounded SSU 36 to 30.

A little over three minutes into the game, SSU led by seven but two free throws by Tyneshia Eaddy and a layup from Amii Rodgers pulled the Hornets to within 11-8.

Savannah State led 23-15 but scored eight straight points to run their advantage to 31-15 with 5:55 remaining.

Morris rallied to cut their deficit to 35-27 with 54 seconds left in the half but Robinson made a layup for SSU to send Savannah State into the break with a 37-27 lead.

Robinson started the second period with a jumper to put SSU ahead by 12 but Morris strung together a run that made the score 39-35 with 18 minutes left. That would be as close as they would get the rest of the evening.

SSU led by 10 but went on a 12-0 run to push their lead to 22 with 6:58 remaining.

Savannah State (11-11) held Morris without a field goal the final 3:21 and ended the game on a 7-0 run.

Rodger led Morris with 17 points and April Drakeford had a game-high 14 rebounds.
