Collier Leads Wake Forest Past SSU Women

WINSTON SALEM, N.C.- Camille Collier scored a game-high 21 points and had seven assists to lead Wake Forest to a 85-41 win over Savannah State in Joel Coliseum.

Collier shot 7-for-10 from the floor and hit six-of-eight 3-point attempts in 26 minutes of action.

Alex Tchangoue added 18 points while Corinne Groves had 14 and Courtney Morris scored 10 for the Deacons (13-8).

Savannah State led 6-3 but the Deacons rallied back with a 22-8 run to go ahead 25-14 with 6:24 left.

A 3-pointer by Milan Johnson cut SSU's deficit to eight but a 15-7 spurt by Wake gave the Deacons a 16-point lead with 1:34 on the clock.

Wake Forest led 42-28 at the half.

Collier and Groves combined for 23 first half points as Wake forced SSU to make 13 turnovers.

The Deacons began the second half with a 21-2 run and opened up a 33 point lead with 15:31 on the clock.

Wake Forest held SSU without a field goal in the second half until Shamice James made a layup at the 14:58 mark.

A 10-0 run gave Wake a 41 point lead with 7:31 remaining and with 3:44 on the clock the Deacons had their largest lead of the contest at 81-36.

Wake Forest shot 58.6 percent from the field in the second half and was 6-of-8 from behind the arc. Savannah State was a woeful 5-for-33 from the floor in the second period.

The Deacons won the rebounding battle 49 to 34.

Patrice Robinson had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Tigers (9-11). Antoinette Williams, LaShara Smith and Ivy Smith all scored seven points for Savannah State and combined for 16 rebounds.
