Charleston Southern Beats SSU

CHARLESTON, SC- Charleston Southern had three players in double figures and held Savannah State to shoot 25 percent from the field in a 64-41 win over the Lady Tigers in the CSU Field House.

Pam Tolbert had 14 points and seven rebounds, Whitney Wiley had 13 points and six rebounds while Natalie Caldwell had 11 points and six rebounds for the Buccaneers (4-12).

CSU led by one early in the contest but a 11-4 spurt by the Bucs expanded their advantage to 18-10 with 12:33 on the clock.

The Bucs led by 16 with just over five minutes left before halftime and took a 35-20 advantage into the locker room.

Charleston Southern shot 42.4 percent from the field in the opening half while SSU was 6-of-25 from the floor. The teams combined for 21 turnovers in the first period.

CSU opened the second half by scoring the first seven points which gave them a 42-20 lead. Savannah State answered with a 13-1 run which pulled the Lady Tigers to within 10 with ten minutes remaining.

The Bucs went on a 10-2 run that ran SSU's deficit back to 18 points with 4:38 left. A jumper by Amber West got SSU to within 53-37 but that was as close as they would get the rest of the way.

Patrice Robinson paced SSU (8-8) with a game high 16 points and 14 rebounds. Milan Johnson scored six points and LaShara Smith and West chipped in five points each.
