Dickerson leads Gamecocks Past Savannah State

COLUMBIA, SC- Brionna Dickerson scored 13 of her team-high 18 points in
the first half to lead South Carolina to a 86-47 win over Savannah State
in the Colinial Center before 1,365 fans.
Dickerson was held to five points on the second period but reserve Jewel
May picked up her slack as she scored 11 of her 14 points after
intermission.
Midway in the opening half, Savannah State trailed 18-11 but a layup and
3-pointer by Ivy Smith pulled SSU to within two.
The Gamecocks responded to finished the remaining eight minutes with a
21-4 run and took a 39-20 lead into the locker room. Dickerson scored 11
points during the run.
SSU was down by 17 early in the second half but a 11-4 spurt by the
Gamecocks put the Lady Tigers down 55-31 with 11:53 left. A 12-0 USC
increased their advantage to 71-37 with 6:10 on the clock.
The Lady Tigers only made one filed goal inside the final five minutes of
play, a jumper by Shmika Jones with 3:27 remaining.
The Gamecocks out-rebounded SSU 53 to25 and their bench players out-scored
the SSU reserves 32 to 6.
Jordan Jones scored 16 for USC (11-4) and Demetress Adams added 11.
Ivy Smith led Savannah State (8-7) with 18 points, seven rebounds and six
steals. Patrice Robinson contributed 14 points, six rebounds and three
blocks.
