Robinson's 21 Leads SSU To Victory

SAVANNAH, Ga- Savannah State closed out the 2007 portion of their schedule with a 71-62 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette in Tiger Arena.

Patrice Robinson came off the bench to led three Lady Tigers in double figures with a game-high and career-high 21 points. The Swainsboro, Georgia native also had six rebounds and shot 10-for-17 from the field.

LaShara Smith added 16 points and Antoinette Williams chipped in 10 points and five rebounds. Ivy Smith had a career-high 14 assists to go along with her seven points and six rebounds.

The Rajun Cajuns (4-7) took an early six-point lead but SSU rallied to tie the game at 17 with 10:50 on the clock.

Trailing by four with just under nine minutes remaining in the half, Savannah State scored 15 unanswered points to take a 32-21 lead with 5:14 left. Six different SSU players scored during the run.

SSU, which shot 56.7 percent from the floor in the first half, led 36-25 at the break.

The Lady Tigers (7-5) ran their advantage to 41-26 early in second period but a 10-2 spurt by Louisiana-Lafayette closed their deficit to seven points with 14:41 on the clock.

SSU's lead was back to 15 points with just over seven minutes left but the Rajin Cajuns answered with a 10-0 run to trim SSU's lead to just five with 3:36 remaining.

With the score 67-62 with 1:57 remaining, a jumper and a layup by Williams gave SSU breathing room and a nine point win.

SSU scored 18 points off 13 Louisiana-Lafayette turnovers and won the rebounding battle 36 to 32. The Lady Tigers shot 50 percent from the floor in the second frame while holding ULL to 37.1 percent.

Alicia McDaniel had 13 points for ULL while Sonora Edwards posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
