Lady Tigers Halt Losing Skid

JACKSONVILLE, Fl- Savannah State stopped a four game losing streak with a 67-58 win over Norfolk State on day two of the Osprey Holiday Classic hosted by North Florida at UNF Arena.
The win improved the Lady Tigers to 5-5 while NSU fell to 1-7.
SSU shot 52 percent from the floor compared to Norfolk State's 39 percent. The Lady Spartans out-rebounded Savannah State 42 to 25.
Leading by one, SSU scored 10 unanswered points to take a 21-10 lead with 9:20 left in the first half.
Savannah State led by 12 with 2:39 on the clock but NSU battled back to end the period and sliced their deficit to 29-23 at the half.
NSU trimmed the Lady Tigers advantage to 34-32 with 16:35 left in the second half but seven consecutive points by SSU moved their lead to nine just two minutes later.
The Lady Spartans got SSU's lead back down to 52-48 with 5:45 on the clock but could get no closer the rest of the way as NSU was held to just one filed goal the final four minutes of action.
Antoinette Williams had 18 points and four steals for Savannah State. Ivy Smith chipped in 15 points, six assists and five steals while LaShara Smith added 12 points and Amber West scored nine.
Norfolk State's Areya Walker led all scorers with 24 points and 19 rebounds.
