Stallworth, McCoy Leads SSU

COLUMBIA, S.C.- Marcus Stallworth and Tyrone McCoy led the Savannah State track team as the Tigers ran in the Weems Baskins Invitational hosted by South Carolina on Weems Track.
Stallworth finished tied with teammate Aaron Whitaker for third place in the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 55.2. Stallworth tied for fourth place in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.1 McCoy was fourth in the 800m race with a time of 2:01.87 and fourth in the 1500m with a time of 4:15.16. Stallworth's time in the 110m hurdles gives him the fifth best time recorded in that event at SSU.
Charles Huggins in the men's 100m and Jeremy Boston was 12th in the 200m race. In the 400m race, Vernon Williams was fifth and Joe Ferguson was seventh. Williams' time of 48.3 was a personal best. Whitaker was tied for ninth in the 110m hurdles and Willie Ross placed 16th. Shawn Souvenir was 12th in the long jump, ninth in the triple jump and fifth in the high jump.
In the women's 100m race, Katryna Williams was 20th, Brenay Grimball finished 21st and Netica Grimball was 23rd. In the 100m hurdles, Calisha Crowder finished tied for eighth and Victoria Burch was tied for 10th. Burch was eighth in the 400m hurdles. In the long jump, Sharonda Redfield was 15th, Shawanna McClain was 20th, DaLisha Crowder was 21st and Ameshia Crowder was 27th. Brittany Johnson was 24th in the shot put. The 4x100m relay team had a eighth place finish.
SSU will participate in the Pepsi-Florida Relays April 4-5 in Gainesvillle, Florida. |
