SSU Opens Outdoor Track Season

FORT VALLEY, Ga- Savannah State opened their outdoor track season by participating in the Tyrone Poole Classic hosted by Fort Valley State.
Although SSU did not win any events, the Lady Tigers had 14 top 10 finishes and the men had 12 top 10 finishes. The women placed second in three events while the Tigers placed second in two events.
Katryna Williams (13.28) was 7th in the women's 100m while Kamilya Collins (13.57) was 12th and Netice Grimball (13.68) placed 13th. Williams was 9th in the 200m with a time of 27.31. DaLisha Crowder (27.91) was 12th, Collins was 13th with a run of 28.26 and Grimball was 16th with a time of 28.76. Mekela Martin was second in the 400m with a time of 1:00.90.
In the 100m hurdles, Monique Harrison (15.84) was tied for 5th followed by Victoria Burch (15.90) who was 7th and CaLisha Crowder (16.14) was 8th. Harrison and Burch finished second and third in the 400m hurdles with times of 1:05.61 and 1:05.94 respectively. CaLisha Crowder was 10th with a time of 1:16.47.
The 4x100m relay team of Harrison, Martin, Williams and Collins finished fourth with a time of 50.40. The 4x400m relay team of Harrison, Martin, Burch and Williams was second with a time of 4:10.56. In the long jump, Williams was 4th with a jump of 15-03 and DaLisha Crowder was 5th with a jump of 15-02. DaLisha Crowder was 3rd in the triple jump (34-05).
The SSU men had Ron Truell (11.05) placed 10th in the 100m while Willie Ross (11.21) was 16th. Truell was 11th in the 200m with a time of 22.73 and Jeremy Boston was 12th with a run of 22.77. Vernon Williams (49.59) was third in the 400m while O'Bryan Clemons (50.37) was sixth and Joe Ferguson (50.55) was seventh.
In the 110m hurdles, Marcus Stallworth (15.50) was second and Ross was sixth with a time of 16.33. Stallworth was second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.83 and Aaron Whitaker placed ninth with a time of 1:04.97.
The 4x100m relay team of Truell, Charles Huggins, Ross and Rodney McDowell finished fourth with a run of 43.30. In the long jump, Stallworth was fourth with a leap of 21-03 and McDowell's jump of 20-11 was good enough for fifth. Shawn Sovnenir placed 12th with a leap of 18-03. Sovnenir was fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 38-03.
