SSU Opens Indoor Track Season

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Savannah State’s Victoria Burch highlighted the team’s season-opening indoor meet Saturday at the Eddie and Jo Smith UNC Classic hosted by North Carolina.

Burch finished sixth in the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 9.61.

Mekela Martin placed 15th in the women's 200m with a time of 27.33. Katryna Williams was 18th with a run of 28.18 and Brenay Grimball was 23rd with a time of 29.09.

Martin placed 12th in the women's 400m with a time of 1:08.88 while Monique Harrison finished 15th with a 1:03.03 and Burch's time of 1:03.36 was good enough for 16th.

Tyrone McCoy was the top finisher for the SSU men. McCoy placed 11th in the 800m with a run of 2:01.74 and was 19th in the one mile run with a time of 4:42.12.

Ron Truell placed 16th in the 200m with a time of 23.60 and Willie Ross was 20th with a run of 24.18.event

In the 400m event, Vernon Williams placed 14th with a 51.32 and Aaron Whitaker was 22nd with a time of 53.63.
