SSU Indoor Track Competes at Clemson Tiger Invitational

SAVANNAH, GA- The Savannah State University track team had eight runners finish in the top 10 at the 2007 Clemson University Indoor Tiger Invitational in Clemson, S.C.

Christopher Blount, Dustin Stevens, O’bryan Clemons and Rodney Hamilton were the SSU men’s event leaders in this weekend’s competitions. Blount led the way with a 3rd place finish in the men’s triple jump. Dustin Stevens placed 4th in the men’s 200 meter dash and 14th in the 60 meter dash. O’bryan Clemons had a good showing with a 4th place rank in the 400 meter dash. Rodney Hamilton placed 4th in the men’s long jump. Kevin Murray placed 9th in the 200 meter dash and 6th in the 400 meter dash. Vernon Williams also finished the 400 meter dash, showing in 9th. Samuel Henry completed the 800 meter run in 9th place.

In other men’s events, Ronald Truell finished in 37th place in the 200 meter dash. Rodney Hamilton finished the 400 meter dash at number 49. Samuel Henry had a good showing, placing 14th in the 1 mile run. Marcus Billups competed in the same two events placing 40th in the 1 mile run and 35th in the 800 meter run. Antoine Sinclair finished 38th in the 800 meter run.

The women’s team placed 10th in the 4x400 relay with Jennifer Alvarez, Tyisha Butler, Kimyata White and DaLisha Crowder representing the Lady Tigers. The women’s relay team led the women in competition.

In other women’s events, Mekela Martin finished 23rd in the 200 meter dash and 20th in the 400 meter dash. April Jordan placed 37th in the 200 meter dash. Victoria Burch and Tyisha Butler both competed in the 400 meter dash, finishing in 31st and 44th respectively. Torri Smith finished 50th in the women’s 800 meter run with teammate Jennifer Alvarez finishing right behind at number 51.

The Tigers will travel to the Fort Valley State Invitational on February 23, 2007 in Fort Valley, Georgia.
