Tigers Rally Past Utah Valley State

SAVANNAH, Ga- Savannah State opened up a close game with a 15-0 run in the second half on their way to a 61-46 win over Utah Valley State in Tiger Arena.

With SSU leading 35-32, the Tigers scored 15 straight points during a 20-2 rally that opened up a 21 point advantage with 5:52 left in the game.

UVSU was able to get with 14 with 3:08 remaining but SSU converted four free throws down the stretch.

Savannah State upped their record to 12-17 while the Wolverines, who entered the contest riding a six-game winning streak, fell to 12-14.

Utah Valley State led most of the first half thanks to the shooting of Jordan Brady and Ryan Toolson. Brady scored eight points in the opening period while Toolson had 10.

UVSU led by four points on four occasions in the first half with the last being with 2:43 left on the clock. Savannah State was able to cut their deficit to one by a pair of free throws from Joe Flegler with six seconds left and took a 26-25 lead into the half when senior center Bjorn Bohley scored a layup with one second on the clock.

Despite being held without a field goal the final 5:52 of the game, SSU played solid defense in the contest as they limited the Wolverines to shoot 33.3 percent from the floor. Savannah Savannah State shot a cool 34.5 percent in the first half but warmed up in the final 20 minutes to make 12-of-23 field goal attempts.

Raye Bailey came off the bench to lead the Tigers with 13 points and three assists. Lazarius Coleman added 12 points and 11 rebounds and Flegler contributed 12 points and six rebounds.

Toolson, who made four 3-point shots, led UVSC with 18 points. Brady and Richard Troyer had 10 points each.
