Tigers Beat Longwood In Overtime

FARMVILLE, Va- Patrick Hardy scored four points in overtime to lift Savannah State to a 69-66 win over Longwood in Willett Hall before a crowd of 1,209 fans.

Longwood led by three at halftime but SSU out-scored the Lancers 33-30 in the second period to send the game into an extra period tied at 59.

With the game tied at 64, Longwood went ahead by two on Lamar Barrett's jumper with 2:06 left. A free throw by SSU's Lazarius Coleman cut the Tigers deficit to one and a jumper by Anthony Jones gave SSU a 67-66 advantage with 53 seconds left. Hardy closed the game with two free throws with 18 seconds remaining. Ryan Bogan missed a game-tying 3-pointer for Longwood with one second left.

Chris Linton led SSU (11-16) with 14 points and nine rebounds. Joe Flegler added 13 points, six assists and four steals while Hardy had 10 points and three steals.

Longwood had a 11-3 run in the first period to grab a eight point lead but the Tigers rallied to tie the game and go into the locker room down 29-26 at intermission.

The Lancers led by as many as six in the second half but SSU would not go away.

Trailing 48-44 with just under six minutes remaining, SSU went on a run that saw them take a 54-52 lead with 2:40 left.

The scored was tied at 57 with 27 seconds left. Two free throws by Raye Bailey gave the Tigers a 59-57 lead with five seconds on the clock but Longwood's Barrett made two free throws with no time left to send the contest into overtime.

Barrett led Longwood (6-21) with a 23-point, 12-rebound effort.
