Owls Hold Off Savannah State 79-77

KENNESAW, Ga- Trailing by two, Kennesaw State put together a 11-4 run that gave them a 74-67 lead with 1:09 left as the Owls defeated Savannah State 79-77 at the Convocation Center.
KSU, which shot 52.9 percent from the floor for the game, had five players in double figures. Shaun Stegall had a game high 27 points followed by Ronell Wooten's 15. Tanner Jacobs had 12, Jon-Micha Nickerson scored 11 and Kelvin McConnell added 10.
Savannah State, which out-rebounded the Owls 41 to 26, connected on 11 of 20 3-point attempts. Keron McKenzie went 5-for-5 from 3-point range and finished the game with a team high 18 points in 15 minutes of action. Anthony Jones had 12 points followed by Chris Linton's 11 and Raye Bailey's 10. Linton had a team high eight rebounds.
SSU led 9-8 but 10 unanswered points by the Owls put SSU behind by nine with 14:41 left.
The Tigers put together a 15-0 run to go ahead by six with 8:50 remaining in the first period but KSU rallied to go ahead 35-30 with 3:50 on the clock.
Savannah State was able to tie the game at 35 and went into the half leading 38-37.
The Tigers were ahead by six early in the second half but KSU bounced back to tie the game at 43 with 17:39 on the clock.
Savannah State led by as many as five before KSU made its run.
Two free throws by Stegall pulled the Owls to within one and a Stegall layup with 15:37 left gave Kennesaw State a 49-48 advantage. KSU would never trail again.
The win gives Kennesaw State a 6-15 record while SSU fell to 10-15.
