Tigers Overpower Longwood

SAVANNAH, Ga- Joseph Flegler scored 20 points to lead Savannah State past Longwood 79-67 in Tiger Arena.
Flegler went 6-of-10 from the field and made 7-of-8 free throw attempts in 26 minutes of action.
The win improves SSU, who never trailed in the contest, to 10-14 while the Lancers fall to 4-17.
Savannah State jumped out to a 17-4 lead as Flegler scored the first 11 points for the Tigers.
Trailing 23-10, Longwood rallied to cut SSU's lead to seven with 9:47 remaining but the Tigers struck back and ended the half with a 19-6 run.
The Tigers entered the game averaging 56.7 points but had 44 in the first period as they took a 44-24 lead into the half.
SSU shot 48 percent from the floor in the first half and hit 8-of-14 shots from beyond the arc. Longwood was 6-of-25 from the floor and made only one of nine 3-point attempts.
Leading by 20 early in the second half, the Tigers had a 8-1 spurt that gave them their largest lead of the night at 27 with 14:12 remaining.
Longwood kept chipping away with 3-pointers by Kevin Swecker and Ryan Bogan and the Lancers cut SSU's lead to 11 with 5:46 left.
Savannah State ran their advantage back to 15 points with 1:16 left but Longwood had a 6-1 run that made the score 77-67 with 25 seconds left.
Anthony Jones had a fast break dunk for the Tigers with 20 seconds remaining for the final points of the game.
The Tigers out-rebounded Longwood 53 to 33.
SSU ended the game shooting 45.9 percent from the floor and made 50 percent of their 3-point attempts.
Lazarius Coleman and Raye Bailey had 15 points each for SSU. Coleman had 11 rebounds while Bailey dished out four assists.
Kirk Williams had a game-high 22 points for Longwood. Bogan added 16 and Swecker had 13.
