Creighton Rolls Past SSU

OMAHA, Neb- P'Allen Stinnett came off the bench to score a game-high 13 points in 16 minutes as Creighton posted a 78-52 win over Savannah State.
The crowd of 14,412 at the Qwest Center saw the Bluejays stay unbeaten and improve to 4-0 while SSU fell to 5-5.
Creighton raced out to a 9-0 lead and never looked back. The Tigers scored their first points with 17:13 remaining on a layup by freshman Anthony Jones.
About four minutes later, the Bluejays expanded their lead to 22-4 when Dane Watts hit a jumper.
Savannah State was able to whittle their deficit down to 14 with 9:17 on the clock with a pair of free throws from freshman reserve Curtis Brown but Creighton used a 10-3 run to get their biggest lead of the half, 36-15, with 6:40 remaining.
Creighton, which shot 50 percent from the floor in the opening period, led 47-28 at the break. SSU was 8-of-23 from the field in the first half but did hit
10-of-12 free throw attempts.
A 3-pointer by Pierce Hibma to open the second half started a 15-5 Creighton run that gave them a commanding 65-33 advantage with 11:30 left in the contest.
Trailing by 31, Savannah State strung together a 12-5 run to pull within 23 with 2:29 left but that would be as close as they would get.
Creighton out-rebounded the Tigers 41 to 24 and received 60 points from their non-starters.
The Blue Jays were held without a field goal the final 7:18 of the second half.
SSU, which shot 34.9 percent from the field in the game, was led by Raye Bailey's 11 points. Joe Flegler tossed in nine points and hit all four of his free throw attempts. Brown, who was 6-of-8 from the foul line, added eight points and three steals.
The Tigers will play at Northwestern on December 1.
