SSU wins Division I portion of SSU Tiger Fall Golf Invitational

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Savannah State University men's golf team finished first out of eight Division I schools in the 3rd Annual SSU Tiger Fall Invitational at Henderson Golf Club in Savannah, Ga. The Tigers finished second amongst all Division I and II institutions.
SSU ended the second day of competition with a two-day score of 610. They were second overall behind the Division II champion Fayetteville State who had a combined score of 592.
The Tigers were led by freshman newcomer Spencer Slade who finished fourth overall in the tournament. Slade had two-day score of 145. He was three shots shy of Florida A&M's Doug Smith who won the tournament with score of 142. Slade led the field after the first day of competition shooting a 71.
SSU's lone senior Zac Gelow finished tied for 11th with a combined score of 152. Jamie Montgomery finished 19th, Corey Brown finished 21st and Riley Baxter rounded out the Tigers with a 24th place finish.
A total of 12 teams and 56 players competed in the Tiger Fall Invitational. Eight Division I and four Division II institutions made their way to Savannah, Ga. to compete at Henderson Golf Club for the two-day event.
