Savannah State Announces 2008 Football Schedule

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah State and first-year head coach Robbie Wells officially announced the Tigers 2008 football schedule. The 12-game schedule features four home dates and three first time opponents. SSU will play two home games in Memorial Stadium and two on campus at Theodore Wright Stadium.

The Tigers will begin the season with a two-game home-stand. SSU kicks off the 2008 campaign by hosting Jacksonville at Memorial Stadium on August 30. It will be the first time the schools have met on the gridiron. Division II Livingstone comes to Wright Stadium on September 6. SSU leads the series with the Blue Bears 5-1.

Savannah State goes on a four-game road trip in mid-September and does not return home until mid-October. The Tigers will face Winston-Salem State on Sept. 13; Bethune-Cookman on Sept. 20; Howard on Sept. 27 and Clark-Atlanta on October 4. The match-up with Howard is slated to be in Miami, Florida. The game at Clark-Atlanta will be the 44th meeting between the Tigers and Panthers. SSU leads the series 24-18-1 and have won 15 of the last 17 games against the Panthers. The teams last met in 1999 in Savannah with SSU winning 34-7.

SSU returns to Memorial Stadium to face Charleston Southern on Oct. 11. After a road trip to Mississippi Valley State on Oct. 18, the Tigers have an open week on Oct. 25.

Savannah State closes out its home slate in the first weekend in the month of November with a Homecoming clash with NAIA and first time opponent Concordia at Wright Stadium.

The Tigers end the season with a three game road trip. SSU plays Edward Waters in Kingsland, Georgia on Nov. 8; at Webber International on Nov. 15; and closes out the season at North Carolina Central on Nov. 22.
