Savannah State Announces 2008 Recruiting Class

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Head football coach Robby Wells completed his first recruiting class at Savannah State Wednesday with the announcement of 23 National Letter of Intent signees.
Savannah State’s Class of 2008 includes 11 players who project to see playing time on the defensive side of the ball, 12 who are expected to see the field on offense.
Wells and his staff were able to address several needs in the class, specifically at offensive line, defensive line and wide receiver, where the Tigers added five players to each position group.
SSU’s offensive recruiting needs also includes two running backs.
On defense, the Tigers were able to address needs inking three linebackers and three defensive backs.
The jewels of the class could be athlete Kurvin Curry (6-2, 200) and Deron Talley (6-1, 175). During the 2007 season, Curry passed for 3,000 yards and 30 touchdowns, rushed for 1,575 yards and 15 touchdowns and was voted most valuable player in 2006 and 2007. In 2007, Talley recorded 36 receptions for 626 yards.
In addition to filling a number of needs at a variety of positions, Savannah State was also able to add a large dose of size to its team.
The biggest recruit is offensive lineman Thelmore Jackson. Listed at 6-6, 298, Jackson played at Tri-Cities High School in Atlanta where he was a two-year starter.
The smallest player signed is running back Timothy Jackson. Listed at 5-7, 170, Jackson played at Lovejoy High School where he was a three-year starter.
