Tiger Head Football Coach Theo Lemon Relieved of Duties

Theo LemonNovember 30 , 2007
SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Savannah State University Head Football Coach Theo Lemon has been relieved of his duties after two seasons at the helm of the Tiger football program. The announcement was made today by Interim Athletics Director Paula Jackson, who also dismissed the assistant football coaches.

"After much thought and consideration on the future of the SSU football program, we have decided to relieve Coach Lemon of his duties at Savannah State," Jackson said. "We thank Coach Lemon for what he brought to the football program during his tenure, but in the best interest of SSU athletics, we are seeking a different direction."

While at SSU, Lemon compiled a record of 3-18 in two seasons: 2-9 in 2006 and 1-9 in 2007. Lemon joined the Savannah State athletics program in April of 2006 from Central State of Ohio, where he was head coach for three years. There, he resurrected the football program, which had been dormant since 1996.

Claud Flythe, vice president for Administration, said he and Jackson will immediately launch a search to identify a new head football coach.
