SSU football moves first three home games to Memorial Stadium
August 17, 2007
SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Savannah State football team will play its first three 2007 home games at Memorial Stadium in Savannah, Ga. All three games will kickoff at 1 p.m.
"Due to upgrades on the SSU stadium press box, we have decided to move the first three home games to Memorial Stadium," said athletic director Robert "Tony" O'Neal. "While the move may present some challenges, the off-campus venue will help us accommodate the extra patrons we are expecting."
The Tigers will play Johnson C. Smith on Sept. 8, Bethune-Cookman on Sept. 15 and North Carolina Central on October 20. SSU's "Homecoming" on Oct. 27 and "Senior Night" on Nov. 17 will remain in Ted Wright Stadium at 2 p.m.
While the upgrades will not be completed by homecoming, the press box will be operational. "We feel it is important to keep the homecoming and senior games on campus," O'Neal said.
The last Memorial Stadium appearance for the Tigers was Nov. 14, 1998.
Athletic Department officials will collect the $5 parking fee at Memorial. Students park free with valid 2007-08 SSU campus parking decal. Tailgate and vendor spaces will also be available.
