Savannah State Opens Cross Country Season

JACKSONVILLE, Fl- The Savannah State men's and women's cross county teams opened up their 2007 season by participating in the Jacksonville Short Course Duals. The men's team beat Jacksonville 25-30 in a dual match but lost to Stetson 35-20 and Florida A&M 37-18. The women's team lost dual matches with Jacksonville 45-15, Stetson 42-15, North Florida 50-15 and Florida A&M 35-22.

Tyrone McCoy led the SSU men with a 11th place finish overall running the one course in 17:54. Marcus Stallworth was 21st and had a time of 19:56. Alvin Edwards (26th, 21:16), Aaron Whitaker (33rd, 24:55) and Joseph Ferguson (34th, 24:59) round out the rest of the SSU men.

For the women, Tamia Thoman was the top SSU finisher, placing 25th overall with a time of 12:52. Antoinette Elam finished 26th, crossing the finish line in 14:10, while Tyisha Butler placed 29th with a clocking of 14:20. Wansley Harrison finished 33rd with a time of 15:00 and Victoria Burch rounded out the scoring with a 34th place
finish and a time of 15:01.
