South Florida Wins Doubleheader

TAMPA, Fl- South Florida swept a double header from Savannah State at red McEwen Field winning game one 12-6 and game two 9-0.

The wins gave the Bulls a 5-5 mark while Savannah State fell to 6-5.

In game one, SSU led 2-1 after seven innings. In the top of the eighth, the Tigers scored four runs to extend their lead to 6-1.

South Florida scored 11 times in the bottom of the inning and held on for the 12-6 victory.

Brandon Javis and Kyle Wilkerson each drove in two runs for SSU. Matt Oglesby took the loss on the mound, giving up six runs and three walks.

Brandon Smith and Trey Manz each had four RBI for the Bulls. Shawn Sanford earned the win.

Both teams left 11 runners on base.

In game two, Randy Fontanez pitched seven innings and held SSU to just for hits. Fontanez struck out nine batters and only walked one batter.

South Florida did all their scoring within the first six innings.

Matt Nowacki had a double for Savannah State.

Five USF batters had at least two hits and two batters drove in two runs each.

Robert Ramsdale took the loss for SSU. Ramsdale pitched five innings and gave up 10 hits eight runs and four walks.
