Wilkerson Leads SSU Past Florida Memorial

MIAMI GARDENS, Fl- Kyle Wilkerson drove in three runs in Savannah State's 8-3 win over NAIA  Florida Memorial.

The Tigers scored four times in the first and added three more in the second to take an early 7-0 lead.

In the first inning, John Keene walked and stole second. Jonathan Ross singled but was thrown out at second but Keene scored the first run of the game. Wilkerson's triple brought home Brandon Javis who walked and Chris Phethean who was hit by a pitch for a 3-0 lead. Wilkerson came home on a single by Alfred Arnold.

Antonio Richmond led off the second with a single to right and then stole second. Ross reached on a fielder's choice which allowed Richmond to advance to third. Javis' double to right scored Richmond and Phethean's ground out allowed Ross to score. Wilkerson reached on a error by the third baseman which allowed Javis to score a unearned run.

FMU scored three runs off four hits and two errors in the bottom of the sixth.

The final run of the game was scored in the eighth by Savannah State as Tim Waine, who was hit by a pitch and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Brian Johnson.

FMU (11-35), who committed five errors, used three pitchers in the loss.

Javis scored two runs for Savannah State (29-11).

SSU's Keene went the distance, giving up eight hits and striking out six.
