Tigers Split Double-Header With Florida Memorial

Miami Gardens, FL- Patrick Ballew struck out 11 batters to lead Savannah State to a 5-2 victory over Florida Memoria in game one of a double-header but FMU bounced back to edge Savannah State in the nightcap 5-4.
In the first game, Alfred Arnold hit a two-run double in the third to give SSU a 2-0 lead.
Florida Memorial cut the score to 2-1 in the fourth but SSU scored twice in the sixth, thanks to a pair of FMU errors. Kyle Wilkerson singled to center and stole second. A single by Antonio Richmond drove him in. Richmond advanced to second and third via errors and scored by an error by the leftfielder.
FMU scored their second run of the game in the bottom of the sixth but Savannah State Arnold's sacrifice fly in the seventh scored Jonathan Ross.
Richmond and Ross had two hits each for SSU while Arnold drove in three runs.
Vasilios Mila went 2-for-3 for FMU.
In the nightcap, Napaleon Sardinas hit the game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh for FMU.
FMU led 1-0 after inning of play but Savannah State scored runs in the second and third to take a 2-1 advantage.
In the third, Florida Memorial scored three runs to go ahead 4-2.
In the top of the seventh, Wilkerson singled and a double by John Keene drove him home. The next batter, Ross hit a single which brought home Keene to tie the game at four.
The bottom of the inning saw FMU (11-34) load the bases before Sardinas had the game winning hit.
Mark Sherrod took the loss for SSU (28-21) as he gave up 10 hits, six walks and five runs.
Ross had three hits while Keene, Wilkerson and Brandon Javis collected two hits apiece.
Joel Palacio earned the win for FMU, striking out seven batters.
