Pirates defeat Savannah State

GREENVILLE, NC- East Carolina scored early and often in a 14-1 win over Savannah State at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
The Pirates, who touched SSU for 16 hits, won their fifth straight game and improved to 26-12.
Savannah State dropped to 26-18 with the loss.
ECU scored once in the first inning and added three in the second for a 4-0 lead.
The Tigers scored their lone run of the contest in the top of the third when Tim Waine walked, advanced to second on Ryan Sainz's single. Waine advanced to third on a groundout by Antonio Richmond and scored on a passed ball.
With the score 4-1, the Pirates added two runs in the bottom of the third and one in the fifth to extend their advantage to 7-1.
After a scoreless sixth, the Pirates had four players to cross home plate in the seventh and three more in the eighth.
A trio of East Carolina pitchers held SSU to three hits.
Savannah State starter Patrick Ballew lasted seven innings but left haven given up 12 hits and 11 runs.
Jake Dean, Ryan Tousley and Kyle Roller all hit home runs for the Pirates.
Sainz had two hits for the Tigers and Jonathan Ross had the other hit.
