Janet L. Palmer joined the Savannah State University Department of Public Safety on August 3 rd 1987 as a patrol Officer. Lieutenant Janet Palmer received her Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Certification from Armstrong Atlantic State University in September of 1988. Lieutenant Palmer was assigned to the Crime Prevention unit in 1994; Lieutenant Palmer also assists in Field Training the Department's newly recruited Officers.
In 1995, Officer Palmer was promoted to Sergeant, as a Lieutenant she is responsible to assist the shift commander with the subordinate staff; shift schedules, evaluating, and Criminal/Internal Investigations. Lieutenant Palmer also is the Training coordinator for the Department Of Public Safety, Quartermaster, Off Duty/Extra Duty work Coordinator, Building Security and also the Gate Guards supervisor. Lieutenant Palmer served on several committees, which are: New Student Orientation Committee, Homecoming Committee, Interview and Screening Committee and the Game Day Committee.
Lieutenant Palmer earned addition certificates in Security & Integrity, High-Tech Investigations, Terrorism, and Sexual Assault investigation, Hostage Negotiations, Crime Prevention, Interpersonal Relations/Crisis and Homeland Security, School Violence Reduction etc. She also earned an appreciation and certificate from Student Government Association
Lieutenant Janet Palmer worked at Sizemore Security Company as an Officer from 1984 through 1987.
Lieutenant Palmer attended Savannah Technical College in 1983 where she earned certificates as a Nursing Assistant as well as a Law Enforcement professional.
Lieutenant Palmer was born and raised in Erwin, North Carolina and graduated in 1965 from Shaw Town High School in Lillington, N.C.
Lieutenant Janet Palmer is the proud mother of one daughter Ms. Kendra Palmer.
