Thomas Y. Trawick, Jr. is the Chief of Police for Savannah State University Department of Public Safety. Prior to this assignment, he worked as Chief Investigator for the Georgia Public Defenders Office,
Eastern Judicial Circuit. As the Chief Investigator, he was responsible for developing, evaluating, and implementing the Investigative Bureau’s goals, objectives, policies and procedures. Chief Trawick also worked as a Criminal Investigator for the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office, Eastern Judicial Circuit as well as the Chatham County Police Department. While employed as a County Officer, he worked in numerous capacities including Patrolman, Narcotics Agent, Vice Agent and School Resource Officer. Chief Trawick’s combined Chatham County service span from January 1990 through December 2004, where he earned numerous accolades for exceptional service.
Chief Trawick recently retired from the 165th Georgia Air National Guard after proudly serving for 22 years where he served in the capacity of a Master Sergeant. He deployed to numerous locations including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Panama, Germany, and Costa Rico. He was assigned to the Transportation Section and worked as the Fleet Manager, where he earned numerous medals including the Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Southeast Asia Service Ribbon, and the Air Force Commendation Medal.
Chief Trawick was born in Tuskegee, Alabama and graduated from Tuskegee Institute High School in 1981. After graduation, he attended Tuskegee Institute College until he decided to join the United States Army in August 1983. After serving for over six years, he exited the Army and joined the Chatham County Police Department. Chief Trawick graduated from Saint Leo University in 1997 earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminology. He also possesses an Associate of Applied Science in Transportation from the Community College of the Air Force. He is currently enrolled at Columbus State University currently pursuing a Masters of Public Administration.
Chief Trawick married Pamela R. (Hurt) Trawick in 1987 and has three children. His children are Thomas III, Brandon and Tremayne. Chief Trawick is heavily involved in his community and is currently an associate member of the Chatham County Sheriff Department Reserves Organization.
