The Mechanical Maintenance Shop operates, maintains and repairs all of the University's heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration equipment, plumbing systems and locking system.
The campus facilities have a total of 2,318 tons of air conditioning, 935 tons are provided from 5 water cooled chiller systems and 1,383 tons from 17 air cooled chillers. Savannah State University has been phasing out the use of CFC refrigerants by equipment replacement since 1992. Currently, only one 90 ton CFC chiller remains in operation. All of the other conditioning equipment uses HCFC of HFC refrigerants. 
Plumbing Service provides maintenance and repairs for campus plumbing systems, operates and maintains the campus water system, operates and maintains campus lift stations, and services the sewer mains. Repair services also includes gas and steam kitchen equipment and dishwashers. We also perform installation and modification projects involving water, waste, air, vacuum and gas piping, equipment and fixtures.
