The Environmental Services Department provides cleaning services for approximately 1.2 million square feet of campus for maintaining all aspects of the physical environmental  including:

residential buildings, academic buildings and administrative buildings at Savannah State University.  The custodial staff crew is divided into two weekday shifts, the day shifts works between 8:00 a.m  - 5:00 p.m. and the  evening shifts works between 2:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

We have improved our cleaning methods by switching from "zone cleaning" to "team cleaning".  This change has proven to be more productive, easier to supervise, and requires less equipment.  As some of the older pieces of equipment requires replacement, we have been purchasing state-of-the-art equipment such as "backpack vacuums" and propane burnishers" which helps us improve cover more cleaning area without having to stop and search for electrical outlets.

Ms. Shirley Gayle has been employed at SSU for eight years, she was recently promoted to Custodian II.
