Testing Office Guidelines
Testing by Appointment Only
1. Tests will only administer exams to students with a Savannah State University ID, driver’s license, or state ID. No exceptions. 2. Exams will be administered on a “by appointment only” basis. Students make their own appointment (unless test schedule is already in existence). 3. Cellular phones and pages must be turned off or set to vibrate mode. 4. Children are not permitted in the testing room. 5. Coats, hats, and all other personal items are to be deposited in the designated area in the Testing Center. Purses may be kept under the desk. 6. Any student found using materials not indicated on the coversheet must forfeit the materials to the testing center staff. The student will be permitted to complete the exam but we will forward the confiscated materials to the instructor with an explanation. 7. Dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Violations may result in disciplinary action by the Committee on Academic Misconduct. 8. Calculators (if permitted by the instructor) will be inspected before being used in the Testing center. (Check with your instructor as to what type of calculator is permitted.) 9. The Testing Center will not give exams past the instructor’s deadline or allow any materials into the testing room unless otherwise specified by the instructor. 10. Students must return all testing materials (including scrap paper) to the exam monitor

Placement Testing General Policies All students wishing to enroll at the University must submit a completed application for admissions to the Admissions Office. Students may be required by the Admissions Office to complete placement testing in the areas of writing, reading, and mathematics. All entering freshmen must take a Writing Assessment, an essay test to assess writing skills and structure. Placement testing is offered several times throughout each semester and during registration. Students must make an appointment with Office of Retention and Student Success to take the placement test. Students providing the Admissions Office with a transcript or grade report from an accredited college or university within the University System Schools of Georgia which shows successful completion of an English and/or mathematics course may be exempt from taking all or part of the placement test. Decisions regarding exemptions will be made by the Admissions Office, the appropriate Dean, and/or the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Students who have a documented learning, emotional or physical disability that would prevent them from finishing the test with a time limit, may be eligible to take test in another setting or with different time limits. Students who have a disability and take tests under regular timed testing conditions may not petition to re-test. Students with documented disabilities needing special accommodations throughout their education at Savannah State University should make contact with the Center for Student Development in the King-Frazier Complex Student Center, Room 233. To schedule an intake interview please stop by their office or call them at: (912) 356-2202. |
