Test Center Rules

The purpose of the placement test is to determine the individual skill level and readiness in English, Reading and Math. Because students enter college with different skill levels, we administer a test to determine the appropriate course(s) a student needs to begin with for their chosen curriculum.

All sections of the test are un-timed. It takes the typical student approximately 3 1/2 to 5 hours to complete all parts of the test. Students must contact the Office of Retention and Student Success at (912) 353-3112 to set up an appointment. All sections of the test must be completed in one sitting.

 COMPASS Exams:

  • A computer adaptive test administered in an un-timed mode. This placement test is composed of three (3) component parts - Writing, Reading, and Mathematics.  The use of a calculator is permitted on the Math test only.

  • COMPASS Passing Score Requirements:

  • Writing = 60

  • Reading = 74

  • Mathematics = 37

 MATH Placement:

  • Students who make a score of 22 and below will be placed in Academic/Learning Support Math 097.

  • Students who score between a 23 and 36 will be placed in Academic/Learning Support Math 099.
