Scholarship
Information
There
are three primary types of scholarships available to students at
Savannah State University (SSU) and Armstrong Atlantic State University
(AASU) through the NROTC Program.
These
three types are:
National
Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded to high school seniors who make it
through an intensely competitive national screening process. The
scholarship pays all tuition and fees. In addition to these funds,
there is a $250 book allowance per semester, not to mention a monthly
subsistence of $250 for Freshmen, $300 for Sophomores, $350 for
Juniors, and $400 for Seniors, which is paid directly to the student.
Uniforms are also provided. Scholarship students also
participate in four weeks of paid travel and training sessions during
the summers between their Freshman and Sophomore, Sophomore and Junior,
and Junior and Senior years.
NSTC-Controlled
Scholarships
If an interested student is
not selected for a National Scholarship, he or she may participate in
the NROTC Unit for an academic semester and then apply for a two- or up
to a three and a half-year scholarship. If the student has a good
academic record in that first semester of college and performs well in
the NROTC Unit, he or she will have an excellent chance of selection
for a two- or three and a half-year NSTC-Controlled Scholarship.
Additionally, the Professor of Naval Science may recommend
academically and militarily qualified NROTC college program students
for the Controlled or Leadership and Technical scholarships.
Professor
of Naval Science (PNS) "HBCU" Scholarships
Because SSU is an "HBCU" (Historically
Black College/University), the Professor of Naval Science is authorized
to issue a number of scholarships paying full tuition, book stipends,
subsistence and fees to all qualified
high school seniors or college freshmen.
