Burch leads Tigers at SSU EyeOpener

SAVANNAH, GA- Victoria Burch set the standard for the Tigers with a 1st place finish in the 400 meter hurdles at the SSU Eye Opener Saturday, March 3rd at Savannah State’s T.A. Wright Stadium.
Burch also finished 10th in the 100 meter hurdle competition.
The Lady Tigers finished competition with ten finishes in the top ten. Nakisha Thompson had a good showing, finishing 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles and Valentina Howard finished 3rd in the women’s triple jump. Tyisha Butler finished 5th in the 800 meter dash and teammate Torri Smith finished 6th in the same competition. CaLisha Crowder finished in 6th place during the 400 meter hurdles competition. Kim White finished 9th in the 100 meter hurdles and DaLisha Crowder finished the women’s triple jump in 9th. Tiffany Andrews and Jennifer Alvarez both had 10th place finishes in the 100 meter dash and the 400 meter dash respectively.
Tiffany Andres finished 13th in the 200 meter dash and teammate DaLisha Crowder finished 15th in the same competition. Bridgette Wilson had a good showing, finishing 16th in the 800 meter dash. Valentina Howard and CaLisha Crowder finished the 400 meter hurdles 11th and 12th respectively.
The men’s team ended Saturday’s events with 17 finishes in the top ten. Samuel Henry had a good showing with 2nd place wins in both the 800 meter dash and the 1500 meter dash. Kevin Murray finished 2nd in the 400 meter dash and Brandon Norman finished 2nd in the 110 meter hurdles competition. Marcus Stallworth had a good showing finishing the 400 meter hurdles in 2nd place. Dustin Stevens finished the 200 meter dash in 4th place and the 100 meter dash in 7th. Vernon Williams ended the 400 meter hurdles competition in 4th place. Christopher Blount had a good showing with a 4th place finish in the men’s triple jump and a 6th place finish in the men’s long jump. The 4x100 meter relay team—consisting of Ronald Truell, Dustin Stevens, Kevin Murray, and Charles Huggins—completed competition in 4th place. Rodney McDowell finished the 110 meter hurdles in 5th place and the 400 meter hurdles in 9th. Jeremy Easley had a good showing with a 6th place finish in the 110 meter hurdles and an 8th place finish in the 400 meter hurdles competition. Marcus Billups finished the 1500 meter dash in 9th place and Christopher Claudius ended the men’s triple jump with a 10th place win.
Antoine Sinclair finished the 800 meter dash with an 11th place win. Charles Huggins finished the men’s long jump in 12th place and finished 16th in the 100 meter dash. Marcus Billups finished the 800 meter dash in 13th place. Ronald Truell finished 14th in both the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. Rasheed Freeman finished the 400 meter hurdles competition in 14th.
