SSU Opens Cross Country Season

JACKSONVILLE, FL-  Savannah State opened their 2006 cross country season by participating in the Jacksonville Dual Meet on September 1.

Samuel Henry led the SSU men in the 5km run with a time of 17:54 which was good enough for a ninth place finish.

Marcus Billups (16th) had a time of 20.14 while Marcus Stallworth (19th) ran the course in 20:56. Rounding out the SSU emn were Antonie Sinclair (23rd, 22:01), O'Bryan Clemons (24th, 22:06) and Rodney Hamilton (26th, 22:22).

Nathan Holder of North Florida was the top men's finisher with a time of 16:42.

Tamia Thomas had a time of 13:18 for the SSU women and placed 21st overall.  Tori Smith finished the 3km course in 13:26 for a 24th overall finish. Other SSU women participating were Erica Marchand (31st, 14:07), Jennifer Alvarez (33rd, 14:26) and Victoria Burch (38th, 15:07).

North Florida's Sarah Coghlan led all women with a time of 11:09.

In dual action, SSU's men beat Jacksonville 22-35 but lost to Stetson (32-23), North Florida (48-15) and Florida A&M (34-21).

The Savannah State women defeated Florida A&M (23-32) but fell to Jacksonville (42-15), Stetson (33-23) and North Florida (50-15).

Savannah State will participate in the Bulldog Duals hosted by the Citadel on September 8 in Charleston, South Carolina, starting at 5:30 pm.
