Tice Powers Cougars Past Savannah State

MT. PLEASANT, S.C.- Jeremie Tice hit two home runs in the first inning to lead College of Charleston past Savannah State 11-1 at Patriots Point Stadium.

In his first at bat, Tice drilled a three-run shot over the center field fence to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead. Tice hit a solo homer down the left field line later in the inning to make the score 10-0.

Gabe Marchant also hit a three-run home run in the inning while Brandon Sizemore doubled in a run. Austin Morgan also had a RBI in the inning.

The Cougars (23-9) scored a unearned run in the third to go ahead 11-0.

Savannah State scored its lone run in the top of the fourth. Brandon Javis reached on a fielding error by the third baseman and later scored on Brett Pointer's double to left center.

Three Cougar pitchers limited SSU (16-12) to just four hits and combined to strike out 11 batters.

Clay Caulfield earned the win, pitching seven innings with seven strikeouts.

Aside for the first inning, the SSU pitchers did well. Starter Michael O'Neil lasted just one-third of a inning and surrendered five runs. Matt Oglesby pitched 6.2 innings of relief and gave up six runs. Michael Allegretti pitched the final inning and struck out two batters.
